About CGI Monitoring
GCI Monitoring is a technology-driven offset well monitoring company delivering real-time field data, defensible reporting, and actionable operational insight. The company combines deep experience in field-based monitoring, custom hardware deployment, and petroleum software, data management, and workflow systems developed through earlier work at Micotan, later acquired into the Aucerna and Quorum Software platforms.
GCI Monitoring designs and builds its hardware and software in-house, enabling solutions purpose-built for real field conditions and regulatory requirements. The company continues to invest in advanced data analytics and machine learning to improve pattern recognition, risk classification, and early-warning capabilities, with a focus on practical innovation grounded in field reality, regulatory expectations, and operator trust.
Executive Leadership
Walter Semkuley is the CEO and Co-Founder of GCI Monitoring, where he provides strategic leadership and operational oversight. Prior to GCI, Walter co-founded Micotan, a petroleum management software company focused on integrating operations with structured data and workflow systems for upstream operators. Micotan was acquired by Aucerna as part of its expansion of well delivery and operational workflow solutions, and Aucerna later became part of the Quorum Software group through industry consolidation, contributing to the formation of one of the largest energy software platforms in the industry. Walter holds a Bachelor’s degree in Accounting and Finance from Simon Fraser University and is a retired Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA, CA). In addition to his business leadership, he has served in board and executive volunteer roles with Medical Mercy Canada, supporting humanitarian and medical initiatives in underserved regions. He brings decades of experience aligning financial discipline, operational fieldwork, and data-driven software systems to support scalable, sustainable technology development at GCI.

Earlier in his career, David worked as a professional geologist with Apache Canada and BP, supporting horizontal drilling, geosteering, core analysis, and reservoir characterization across multiple basins, including the Permian. He holds both a Bachelor of Science (Honours) and a Master of Science in Geology from the University of Alberta and is a registered Professional Geologist (P.Geo) with APEGA.
Safety & Environmental Responsibility
At GCI Monitoring, safety and environmental stewardship are fundamental to how we operate — not an afterthought.
Our monitoring services are deployed in active completion environments where pressure control, data accuracy, and situational awareness are critical. We recognize our responsibility to protect personnel, assets, and the environment at every stage of operations.
Safety-First Operations
GCI maintains a safety-first culture built on:
Hazard identification and risk assessment prior to deployment
Job safety analysis (JSA) and site-specific hazard reviews
Clear communication with operators and service partners
Strict adherence to client safety programs and site protocols
Our field systems are designed to minimize site footprint, reduce exposure time, and eliminate unnecessary personnel risk wherever possible.
Environmental Protection
Protecting the environment is a core component of responsible monitoring operations.
GCI services support environmental protection by:
Providing early detection of pressure communication events
Reducing the likelihood of uncontrolled wellbore integrity failures
Supporting groundwater and surface casing protection
Enabling rapid operational response to abnormal pressure behavior
Accurate, real-time monitoring plays a critical role in preventing escalation before environmental impacts occur.
Regulatory Awareness & Compliance
GCI maintains strong awareness of regulatory requirements governing hydraulic fracturing operations, including:
AER Directive 083 – Hydraulic Fracturing Subsurface Integrity
Energy Safety Canada IRP 24 – Managing Well Integrity
Our systems are designed to support operator well control plans through reliable pressure surveillance, documented alarm response, and secure data retention.
Continuous Improvement
We believe safety performance improves through continuous evaluation and refinement.
GCI is committed to:
Ongoing review of field procedures
Equipment reliability testing and improvement
Integration of operator feedback
Adoption of evolving industry best practices
Our objective is to provide dependable monitoring solutions that contribute directly to safer operations and responsible resource development.
